Tras una acalorada sesión de Concejo Municipal, los concejales de derecha más el radical Eduardo Topelberg, aprobaron el proyecto alternativo que terminó por desechar la existencia de un hospital para Ñuñoa. Hasta el momento, es una modernización en infraestructura, más la incorporación de otras atenciones, por ejemplo, traumatológica. Sin embargo, el proyecto no contempla claramente atención de mediana ni alta complejidad, por lo que los pacientes derivados de los consultorios de Ñuñoa seguirán atendiéndose en el Hospital del Salvador.
Se ocupan sólo dos de los cinco pisos que contempla el llamado “elefante blanco”: un subsuelo con estacionamientos y el primero para atención de salud.
